Defining Beauty
If you follow my blog, my Facebook page or my Twitter account, you have probably seen something posted about our Flawless Beauty photo contest. We’re holding this contest to launch the Jon Raven Diamond Collection and to benefit The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. This is a worthwhile and important cause and since 1 in 8 women has breast cancer, it is something that touches many people each year – whether they have cancer, are screened for cancer or have a friend or family member who has cancer.
We wanted to find a name that would convey the essence of the contest and the type of people we want to enter. And, when we settled on the name, it also highlighted the fact that the Jon Raven Diamond Collection contains flawless and near flawless diamonds. So, it seemed like we had the perfect name. But there was a problem.
We’ve had many beautiful women email us to say they aren’t beautiful enough or they aren’t flawless. That truly shocked us and has concerned us. So, we started explaining the name in several ways –
Flawless applies to the diamonds
- We aren’t looking for a person with a great plastic surgeon or who is a size 2
- We want a photo that shows that intangible “it” factor
- We want a photo that shows a unique side of you that captures our imagination
- Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
All of these thing are true and one of our promos say “Your beauty + our diamonds = flawless beauty.
I had some ideas of how to explain what we are looking for and I posed the question to my Facebook friends and they share some awesome thoughts.
- Confidence – not being cocky and over confident
- Independence – not being clingy and overly dependent
- Wearing attractive, well-tailored clothing – don’t need to be expensive
- Having a clean appearance – being dirty and unkempt is not attractive
- Showing competence and ability
- Little imperfections (Dave)
- The inner beauty she or he can bring out of them (Ralph)
- Physical symmetry and the way a person’s voice sounds (Anastasia)
- The compassion one holds for life and kindness in your heart makes me think that anyone who possesses that is a natural beautiful person… (Matt)
- Attitude (Jeff)
- Brains (Jeff)
- Authenticity – a man or woman need to keep it real enough to be both confidant and vulnerable… that is super sexy. (Angel)
- You can find someone that is stunningly good looking…. and then they open their mouth and it’s like instant train wreck ! (Jeff)
- Kindness (Michael)
- Real beauty comes from within (Cary)
- Women become more or less beautiful strictly because of the words that came out of their mouth (David)
- A kind heart and giving of themselves when they will get nothing in return. (Steven)
We would love to have you share your beauty and help us, help The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. By the way, did I mention we are giving away 75 carats of black diamonds to the winner? For more details, visit http://www.jonravencontest.com
Recently I saw a new commercial for Fruit of the Loom and I never thought I’d quote an underwear commercial, but this shows it very well.
